1st Self Authorising Day of 2016

The first ad hoc flying day for 2016 was set up by Ian Carrick, lets keep them coming! A cracking day with 6 launches at midday and a couple of late arrivals pinged off mid afternoon. Cooperman drove the tug and had to head home to other duties shortly after 3pm just as the first glider landed back. The others had set off to Talgarth and other locations so will wait to hear lots of daring stories….                 Many thanks to Bill Henderson and Graham Burton for running a few wings plus a surprise visit and help from former member Lee Featherstone.

Well this was a decent day well grabbed. The jungle telegraph and texting system was used and commendable enthusiasum did the rest. As Mike predicted it would be soarable with a risk of an early finish. It was in fact only a 3 1/2 hour day starting at midday. Great effort by Ian getting to Raglan near USK but robbed of a 300 k by the dying sky as he got back. I was less brave and did Crewe to Shobdon which proved just enough. Paul got to Corwen deep in the North Welsh hills – bold stuff and ended up pushing back just behind me against a chilly 15 knot head wind for a good scrape home. Derek bagged all the Lakes and lots of points. Great adventures.
