Staffordshire Gliding Club
Cross Country Ladder Rules 2010
- All distance flights must
- Be straight line, out & return or circuit with a maximum of 3 different turn points (excluding start and finish).
- Start and/or end at Seighford.
- Take place from 1st January to 31st December 2010.
- Use BGA turn points except for straight routes landing away.
- Not incur any actual airspace infringements – nor come within 1 km horizontally or 100’ vertically of an infringement.
- Distance scoring
- Declared flights score 1000 times the completed distance (in KMs.) around the declared route divided by the glider handicap.
- Undeclared flights score 800 times distance completed in a straight line or round BGA turn points divided by the glider handicap.
- Landing out on either a declared or undeclared flight does not incur a penalty other than the distance not completed.
- Declarations must be made before the flight either in person to another club member or on the logger or written down on flying list. Flights that are pre declared prior to takeoff can go direct from release point – it is not necessary to cross the start line.
- Declarations made by radio after the launch are acceptable provided they are acknowledged AND they must start by crossing the start line. (Ask the receiver to note the declaration and time on the log sheet.)
- A single height gain may be used for a ladder claim as follows:
- The flight must start at Seighford.
- The minimum claimable height gain is 1000m.
- Evidence must be submitted as for a height badge claim
- Oxygen must be carried for claims > 3000m.
- Scoring is the height gained in metres divided by 2.
- No more than one height claim can be used for the ladder in any year.
- There will be two ladders - Novice and Open
- The Novice ladder is for any pilot(s) who haven’t completed a 100Km cross-country glider flight before the start of the current year. Novices can claim up to three distance flights with no minimum distance requirement, or 2 distance flights + 1 height claim.
- The Open ladder is for any pilot(s) including novices. They can claim up to five flights of a minimum of 100Km – either all distances or including a single climb >1000m.
- All claims must be submitted to the ladder steward, Derek Heaton within 1 month of the flight.
- All height claims must be supported with logger data.
- Distance flight Claims for both ladders may be accepted verbally by the ladder steward but must be supported with logger data for consideration for the overall cross country trophies.
- Where more than one claim for the early Bird trophy is received for flights on the same day the winner will be determined by the highest points score. In the event of a tie then the best handicapped speed will be used as a tie breaker.
